RustDesk is the remote support tool LanClub uses to connect to your computer when you need help. In most cases it will have been installed automatically during your onboarding. This article explains how to check if it's installed, and how to install it manually if needed.
Is RustDesk Already Installed?
If you've completed your LanClub onboarding, RustDesk should already be installed and configured on your computer. Here's how to check:
Windows:
- Click the Start menu and search for RustDesk
- If it appears in the results, it's installed
- You may also see the RustDesk icon in your system tray (bottom right of your taskbar)
Mac:
- Open Finder and go to Applications
- Look for RustDesk in the list
- You may also see it in your menu bar at the top of the screen
If RustDesk is installed and was set up during onboarding, you don't need to do anything else — we can connect when needed.

- Launch RustDesk once installed
Pointing RustDesk to LanClub's Servers
After installing RustDesk, you need to import LanClub's server configuration key so it connects through our private servers. This is important for security and to ensure your remote support sessions are private.
To request the configuration key:
- Email help@lanclub.nz with the subject: RustDesk Config Key Request
- We'll email you the configuration key and instructions
- Once you have the key, open RustDesk
- Click the three dots menu (⋮) or Settings icon
- Go to Network
- Click Import Server Config
- Paste the key we sent you and click OK
- RustDesk will restart and connect to LanClub's servers automatically
If you're unsure whether your RustDesk is already configured correctly, email help@lanclub.nz and we can verify it during a support session.
Finding Your RustDesk ID
Your RustDesk ID is the unique number we use to connect to your computer. You'll find it on the main RustDesk screen when you open the app — it's a 9 or 10 digit number displayed prominently.
You don't need to share this with us in advance — we already have it recorded from your onboarding. But if we ever ask for it, this is where to find it.
Keeping RustDesk Running
For remote support to work, RustDesk needs to be running on your computer. By default it runs automatically in the background when your computer starts — you don't need to open it manually.
If you think RustDesk isn't running:
Windows: Check your system tray (bottom right of the taskbar) for the RustDesk icon. If it's not there, open RustDesk from the Start menu.
Mac: Check your menu bar at the top of the screen for the RustDesk icon. If it's not there, open RustDesk from your Applications folder.
