If you're trying to visit a website and seeing a blocked page, this article will help you understand why it's happening and what to do about it.
What a Blocked Page Looks Like
When NextDNS blocks a website you'll typically see one of the following:
- A page from NextDNS explaining the site has been blocked
- A blank page or "This site can't be reached" error
- A "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN" error in your browser
If you're seeing a different type of error it may not be related to NextDNS — submit a ticket at https://help.lanclub.nz and we'll investigate.
Why Was it Blocked?
There are a few common reasons a website might be blocked:
It's genuinely harmful The site has been identified as malicious, a phishing site, a malware distributor, or part of a known threat network. In this case the block is intentional and you should avoid the site.
It's been incorrectly flagged Occasionally a legitimate website gets added to a blocklist by mistake — this is called a false positive. It happens rarely but it does happen, and it's easy to fix.
It matches a content filtering rule If you've asked LanClub to apply stricter content filtering for your household, the site may be blocked because it falls into a filtered category.
A script or tracker on the page is blocked Sometimes the website itself loads fine but an advertising or tracking script on the page is blocked. You may notice some page elements don't load correctly — this is normal and generally not a problem.
Is it Safe to Visit?
If you're confident the website is legitimate and you need access to it, you can request an unblock. If you're not sure whether the site is safe, it's better to err on the side of caution and submit a ticket — we can check it for you.
How to Request an Unblock
If a legitimate website is being blocked and you need access to it:
- Email help@lanclub.nz with the subject: Website Unblock Request
- Include the full website address (e.g. https://www.example.com)
- Let us know what the site is and why you need access
- We'll review it and unblock it if it's safe to do so — usually within one business day
Temporary Workaround
If you need access urgently while waiting for us to review the unblock request, you can temporarily connect your device to mobile data instead of your home WiFi. NextDNS only applies to devices connected to your home network, so mobile data bypasses it.
Can I Unblock it Myself?
NextDNS is managed by LanClub on your behalf — you don't have direct access to the filtering rules. This is by design to ensure your protection settings stay consistent and secure. All unblock requests go through help@lanclub.nz.
