This article provides a more detailed breakdown of exactly what software LanClub updates on your computer and the typical schedule for when updates are applied.
Update Categories
LanClub manages updates across three categories:
Critical Security Patches These are the most important updates — they fix known vulnerabilities that could be exploited by attackers. These are applied as quickly as possible after they are released, typically within 48–72 hours.
Regular Security Updates Routine security updates that aren't classified as critical. These are applied on a weekly cycle during scheduled maintenance windows.
Feature and Application Updates Non-security updates that add new features or improve performance. These are applied monthly and are lower priority than security patches.
Update Schedule
| Update Type | Frequency | When |
|---|---|---|
| Critical security patches | As released | Within 48–72 hours of release |
| Regular security updates | Weekly | Outside business hours |
| Third-party app updates | Weekly | Outside business hours |
| Major OS upgrades | As needed | With advance notice to you |
| Feature updates | Monthly | Outside business hours |
Microsoft Patch Tuesday
Microsoft releases the majority of its security updates on the second Tuesday of every month — known as Patch Tuesday. LanClub monitors these releases closely and begins deploying relevant patches to your computer shortly after they are released and tested.
You may notice slightly more update activity on your computer in the days following the second Tuesday of each month — this is normal.

Major Operating System Upgrades
Major OS upgrades — such as a new version of Windows or macOS — are handled differently from routine updates:
- LanClub will notify you before applying a major upgrade
- We'll check your hardware is compatible first
- We'll schedule the upgrade at a convenient time for you
- We'll monitor the upgrade and be available to help if anything goes wrong
You will never have a major OS version upgrade applied without being informed in advance.
Updates We Don't Manage
There are some things LanClub does not update automatically:
- Firmware for devices like printers, routers, or smart home devices — these require separate management
- Paid software with manual licence activation — some applications require manual intervention to update
- Mobile devices — phones and tablets are not included in patch management
- Applications not on our supported list — email help@lanclub.nz if you'd like us to add a specific application
