How to Request a Website to be Unblocked

If a website you need access to is being blocked by NextDNS, you can request that LanClub review and unblock it. This article explains how to submit an unblock request and what to expect.

Before You Request an Unblock

It's worth checking a couple of things first:

  • Is the site definitely blocked by NextDNS? You should see a NextDNS block page, a blank page, or a DNS error. If you're seeing a different type of error it may be a different issue — submit a general support ticket at https://help.lanclub.nz instead
  • Is the site one you trust? If you're not sure whether the site is legitimate, it's worth asking us to check before requesting an unblock. We're happy to look it up for you
  • Is it a tracker or ad script being blocked? If the website itself loads but some elements are missing, it's likely a tracker or ad script being blocked rather than the whole site. This is normal and generally not worth unblocking

How to Submit an Unblock Request

  1. Email help@lanclub.nz with the subject line: Website Unblock Request
  2. Include the following information:
    • The full website address (e.g. https://www.example.co.nz)
    • A brief description of what the site is
    • Why you need access to it
    • Which device or devices are affected
  3. We'll review the request and let you know the outcome via email

How Long Does it Take?

We aim to review unblock requests within one business day. For urgent situations — for example if you need access for work — mention this in your email and we'll prioritise it.

What Happens After We Review it?

If the site is safe to unblock: We'll add it to your NextDNS allowlist and let you know. The change usually takes effect within a few minutes — try refreshing the page or restarting your browser if it doesn't load straight away.

If the site is flagged as genuinely harmful: We'll let you know why it's blocked and advise against visiting it. If you still want to access it we'll discuss the options with you — but we won't unblock sites that pose a genuine security risk without your full understanding of that risk.

If we need more information: We'll reply to your request asking for additional details before making a decision.

Need Access Urgently?

If you can't wait for a review, you can temporarily bypass NextDNS by connecting your device to mobile data instead of your home WiFi. Since NextDNS is applied at your router, it only affects devices on your home network.

This is a temporary workaround only — please still submit an unblock request so we can review the site properly.

Requesting a Permanent Category Change

If you'd like to adjust the overall content filtering settings for your household — for example loosening or tightening certain categories — email support@lanclub.nz and we can review your NextDNS profile settings with you.
